August Book Reading

Postby PixelBead on August 8th, 2008, 9:09 am

Read Mary Janice Davidson's new Undead book, Undead and Unworthy. This book is a bit darker and has less humor than the first 3 or 4 and according to the prologue this is part one of a trilogy within the series. Still a good book.

Well, I'm still on Clive Cussler books for the most part. There's a lot of Dirk Pitt novels out there, never mind his other works. I also read an article on how he has been very dissatisfied with how the movies are made 'based' on his stories. It got to the point that he took the powerhouse movie maker to court over Sahara because he did not approve the script. I felt sympathetic towards him. Then I read the other side of the story.

Cussler hated the way they mangled Raise the Titanic back in the 80s so he wanted to be able to choose the script. I understand they sent him numerous scripts and changes etc and he rejected all of them. The studio finally settled on one and made the film. The end of the court battle? Clive Cussler was fined $5,000,000 for breach of contract.

After watching the hassles Anne has gone through with getting her books put on the large or small screen, I understand both sides of the story. Clive Cussler actually is Dirk Pitt and has worked with NUMA and discovered more than 60 lost ships of historic significance. After watching Sahara, I could see that they stuck to the spirit of the books if not the actual storyline. So now I sit here and wonder who is actually right and who is 'wrong'.
